Noon murder is 2d in Northeast today

Two episodes of gunfire within a few miles of each other today in the Northeast have left two men dead, according to police.

Gunfire at noon in Wissinoming left an 18-year-old dead and a 17-year-old hospitalized.

The older teen, shot multiple times in the 4800 block of Tackawanna Avenue, was taken to Frankford Hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after 12:30 p.m., according to Officer Tanya Little.

The other victim, shot in the hips and buttocks at the same location, was in stable condition this afternoon at Frankford Torresdale, she said.

Early this morning, a 26-year-old man died of gunshot wounds in Holmesburg, a few miles east of the later shooting scene.

Barry Jacobs, 26, was found outside, shot in the head and chest, shortly before 2:30 a.m. in the 8600 block of Glenloch Place, according to Officer Jillian Russell.

Jacobs was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:36 a.m., she said.

He lived a half-dozen blocks away, in the 8800 block of Torresdale Avenue.

Whether the two sets of shootings are related was uncertain, Little said.

No arrests have been made in either case, and police are investigating to determine possible suspects and motives.

The homicides were the 176th and 177th this year, compared to last year's 222 homicides through July 17.
