Two children wounded by stray gunfire in N. Phila.

Two children - a 9-year-old boy and a girl, 7 - playing outside the Raymond Rosen Homes project in North Philadelphia last night were wounded by stray bullets, police said.

The children were playing on the 2400 block of Edgley Street about 9 p.m. Police were unclear about where the gunman was when the shooting began, saying that there had been a disturbance on the highway nearby.

The boy was taken to Temple University Hospital, where he was treated and released. The girl was rushed to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, where she was reported in stable condition. Police said both victims suffered arm wounds. Their names were not released.

Anyone with information was asked to call Central Detective Division at (215) 686-3093 or (215) 686-3069. - Suzette Parmley

John Smallwood: I liked the way Donovan McNabb carried himself, the confidence he exuded. But I raised an eyebrow when he said the Eagles, coming off an 8-8 season, "have not changed so much that we can't win the NFC East."

Investigators dubbed it "Operation Delco Nostra," and they said that for at least five years, the tentacles of Philadelphia's organized-crime network took a firm hold in Delaware County, engaging in illegal activities that included bookmaking, loan-sharking and drug-dealing.
LAST MONTH, reputed mob associate Louis "Bent Finger Lou" Monacello wanted mob associate Martin "Marty" Angelina, 45, beaten so badly he'd be hospitalized and be demeaned as a "nobody."
