And the school district honors go to . . .

The Philadelphia School District's 24th annual Celebration of Excellence in Education program last night honored college-bound students, teachers, school administrators and school district alumni.

In addition to presenting the Dr. Ruth Wright Hayre Teacher of the Year Award to Bodine High's Gina S. Hart, the district also awarded:

* The Marcus A. Foster Award, given to an outstanding administrator, to Yvonne J. Jones, principal of Motivation High School, in Southwest Philadelphia. She was cited for increasing the percentage of 11th-graders who passed the state reading test from 37 percent in 2005 to 65.5 percent in 2007.

* The Leon J. Obermayer Award, given to a distinguished school district graduate, to Conwell Middle Magnet School Principal Edward Hoffman. An alumnus of Central High, Hoffman was cited for his mastery of teaching styles during a 38-year career. He's also had 21 consecutive years of perfect attendance at Conwell, in Kensington.

Hart, Jones and Hoffman each received stipends.

* The De Lone Family Scholarship, given to an outstanding graduating senior enrolled in a Philadelphia Academy - a thematic school-within-a-high school - to Julis Davis, who attends the Communications Academy at Roxborough High School. Julis received a $4,800 scholarship. *
