Snow should spare evening rush

Snow showers are expected in the area this evening but their timing and intensity should not seriously affect the end-of-the-workweek rush hour.

Accumulations of less than an inch are predicted for the city, Delaware and Chester Counties, and South Jersey before the snow turns into rain later tonight.

More snow - two to four inches - could fall in parts of Montgomery and Bucks Counties, the National Weather Service said.

"It will start off as light showers," said weather service meteorologist Bill Christ in Mount Holly. "I don't think it will affect the rush hour that much."

The snow is arriving on the edge of what is called an Alberta Clipper, which will hit points north harder than here, dumping up to a foot of snow in parts of New England.

Forecasts call for a mix of rain and snow tomorrow morning before temperatures get up to the 40s.

WASHINGTON - The House approved a sweeping plan yesterday to ease the most serious housing crisis since the Great Depression by providing aid to homeowners facing foreclosure and a federal backstop for the struggling mortgage giants Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
It was always a matter of when, not if. The city's $62 million Motorola radio system had the kind of spectacular crash on Tuesday night that critics have warned about for years.
