3 wounded in spate of

A barrage of shootings across the city left three people hospitalized with gunshot wounds last night.

In the first incident, police said a 39-year-old woman was shot eight times when two young gunmen opened fire at 5:45 p.m. on Redfield Street near Haddington in West Philadelphia.

The woman, whose name was not released, was taken to the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in stable condition.

Investigators believe that the shooters were aiming for the woman's boyfriend and wounded her accidentally. The gunmen remained on the loose last night.

Another shooting erupted about 75 minutes later on Wake-ling Street near Mulberry in East Frankford. Police said that at about 7 p.m. a 12-year-old girl was caught in the crossfire as a group of men exchanged gunshots.

The unidentified girl was wounded twice in the arm and once in the side. She was listed in stable condition at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children. Detectives were searching for gunmen last night.

Finally, at 7:30 p.m., John Williams, 43, was shot once in the thigh on 15th Street near Cambria in North Philadelphia. He was listed in stable condition at Hahnemann University Hospital. Two suspects were seen fleeing the area in a green Buick LeSabre. *
