8 ways to stay warm without turning the heat up
It's cold out there, folks. Don't let the dropping temperatures raise your bills. Here are 8 ways to stay warm without turning the heat up:
1. Bake up
Homemade soups, stews, and casseroles cook at low temperatures for a long period of time, which will slowly warm up your home, or at least your kitchen. They’re also warm you up going down.
2. Drink something warm
Your hands are one of three body parts that tend to get the coldest, wrap them around a warm mug of hot chocolate, tea or coffee. You’ll also be able to feel the warmth settle in your stomach.
3. Open up your curtains
Allowing light to enter your home can warm up a room in no time.
4. Clean the house
Get your blood pumping, and your house spotless, by tiding up your home.
5. Make it muggy
Humidifiers pump out warm air, crank that thing up! It you don’t have one, leave the door open while you shower.
6. Do laundry
Who doesn’t love the feeling of clothing straight out of the dryer?
7. Draft blockers
Lower your electric bill and raise the temperature in your home by eliminating drafts. If you don’t have a draft blocker handy, try a rolled up towel.
8. Go old school
Heat up a hot water bottle or microwave bags of rice or dried beans and put them under your covers before you go to sleep. Your bed will be nice and toasty when you hop in.
