At-home Valentine’s date: Romantic table decor
With Valentine’s Day fast approaching, I thought I would share with you this rather quick and easy romantic table decor item you could make on the day of Valentine’s! The best part is, you most likely already have all the ingredients!
To make this lovely candle light table decor item you will need:
- a pretty glass or jar
- a tea light
- color rice in various shades of choice
I also make color rice for various sensory play ideas for the kids every now and again. It is very easy to make with just some vinegar and food coloring.
First, measure the amount of rice you will need in your glass / containers so that you know you are making enough.
TIP: The rule of thumb is to use 1 tablespoon of vinegar per cup of rice as well as a few drops of food coloring to get the desired shade. The more drops you use the darker and more intense the color.
Add a cup of rice to a zip plastic bag along with 1 tablespoon vinegar and your food coloring. Add a few drops essential oil to make your rice smell nice and neutralize the vinegar smell. Now zip the bag closed and shake until the rice is covered fully in color.
Some rice will absorb the moisture and others will require an hour or so drying. Empty out the wet rice on some wax paper and spread out to dry.Once dry, decide on your color pattern for your glass. I used one of my measuring cups to ensure I had equal layers (stripes) of color in my glass. Once glass is full to desired height push in the tea light and decorate the table.
TIP: If you scented your rice when coloring it the heat from the tea light will also release the smell making for a truly romantic evening aroma.
