Health Tip: Why Is My Skin Dry?

(HealthDay News) -- Few things are more uncomfortable than dry, itchy skin. So, what's behind it?

The American Academy of Dermatology says possible causes include:

  • Aging. As you get older, your skin dries and thins. So make sure you use a daily moisturizer after age 40 or earlier.
  • Living in a dry climate.
  • Having a skin disease, such as eczema or psoriasis.
  • Having a job in which your skin is often in water.
  • Swimming in a pool that contains a lot of chlorine.
