When the heavy-metal group Iron Maiden comes to Philadelphia in June, a local researcher can take credit for some of the attendant pageantry.

At the band's request, the University of Pennsylvania's Simon Martin translated 11 of the group's head-banging song titles into ancient Mayan hieroglyphs.
