Walking the red carpet at last night’s Oscars, Jennifer Lawrence broke off an interview to joke, “is there food here?” explaining that she was “starving” because she hadn’t eaten a single thing that day!

It’s a fine line that us women walk. Now, we’re all well aware that starving ourselves is not the way to lose the weight – come on Jennifer – but that moment when you look on your calendar and realize you only have a few weeks before that big event that you want to look your best for, well, we know it’s nerve wracking! Maybe it’s not something as extravagant as the Oscars but that certainly doesn’t stop us from taking some fit tips from the stars on their biggest night. Because wouldn’t it be great if we could look and feel a little lighter for our next big date/interview/party, too?

Fortunately, the writers at SELF talked to a few of the top trainers and nutritionists to find out the healthiest ways the stars slim down fast. So the next time that big event sneaks up on you, look to whole foods like oats, berries and raw veggies – and whatever you do, steer clear of dairy, sugar and salt.

Registered dietician Keren Gilbert, president and founder of Decision Nutrition also recommends munching on hydrophilic foods like broccoli and carrots, which soak up water and keep you feeling fuller, longer – leaving you with a Jennifer Lawrence-like bod, minus that starving feeling!
