Wilmington Hospital is a 241-bed hospital recognized for excellence in joint replacement surgery, rehabilitation, and women's and pediatric health services. Its Center for Advanced Joint Replacement performs more than 2,000 total hip and knee replacements a year. The Center for Rehabilitation offers inpatient physical rehabilitation programs to acute-care patients at the bedside and in its therapy gym. The recently launched Swank Memory Care Center is the Delaware area's first comprehensive outpatient office for patients with memory disorders and their families. The hospital is in the midst of a $205 million construction project that will include a nine-story surgical tower, doubling the size of the hospital's emergency department, adding 120 patient beds, and a new intensive-care unit scheduled for completion in 2014. The hospital serves New Castle County in Delaware, and Chester, Delaware and Philadelphia Counties in Pennsylvania.
