Thomas Jefferson University Hospital has the region's only dedicated hospital for neuroscience. Its orthopedics service says it treats more patients with spine or spinal cord disorders than any program in the northeast, and the Rothman Institute at Jefferson performs some 6,500 joint replacements a year. Jefferson's Kimmel Cancer Center is a National Cancer Institute-designated facility. In addition to close links with Jefferson Medical College, the hospital is a leading site nationally for medical research and has been active in alternative treatments through the Myrna Brind Center for Integrative Medicine.
