However, it is mostly used for patient education for those that have a heart condition. The doctor can show them their condition via animation on the app and show them the anatomy of the heart, how it’s suppose to function and what exactly is wrong, Niall Johnston says, one of the founders of 3d4 Medical company, the creator of the app.
2. Pocket First Aid and CPR – Available for Apple products and a limited edition for Android; $1.99
Created by the American Heart Association, this app gives you emergency information, first aid and CPR instructions, and provides the ability to save all your medical information. Videos, illustrations and articles are there to help guide you.
3. Cardio Buddy – Available from the iTunes store; $.99. Android edition, Instant Heart Rate; free.
This app uses your camera sensor to monitor your hear rate while you exercise. You can track your heart rate averages, highs and lows. Interesting heart facts are also included.
4. Heart Health – Available from the iTunes store for use all Apple products; free
Learn the nuts and bolts of every type of heart issue with this app, such as the symptoms and risk factors for heart attacks, cardiac arrest and arrhythmia.
5. iHealth Blood Pressure Dock – Available at most major retailers and health stores; $99.95
One way to keep track of your blood pressure is to use this app and dock. The dock comes with blood pressure armband and you connect your iPod or iPhone to it to get a reading. Every detail of your blood pressure results is right at your fingertips and everything is DIY. No nurse, doctor or family member necessary.
