5 extreme kitchen makeovers


This summer, do yourself and the entire family a favor by making your refrigerator and cupboards healthier.

1 First, grab a trash bag - and get ready to write a new shopping list.

2 Go ahead and throw away all of the obvious offenders - you know the ones. Throw those cakes, cookies, chips and candies in the trash bag.

3 You should also get rid of those high-fat, high-calorie frozen dessert bars and half-eaten containers of ice cream. With a little hot water, they wash right down the drain.

4 Seriously consider throwing away all the high-sodium, high-fat, low-fiber meals and snack foods tucked away in your freezer.

5 Check the dates on your herbs, spices and other seasonings, flours and condiments. Believe it or not, they have a shelf life, too.
