A day in the life of a Rothman orthopedic surgeon
Posted on Wed, Dec 12, 2012
The Rothman Orthopedic Specialty Hospital in Bensalem, Pa. hosted to the second annual Operation Walk USA on December 7. Operation Walk provides free hip and knee replacements to the uninsured and underinsured who are in critical need. His patient, Sandra Fanelli, and her identical twin sister Deborah both received hip replacements through the program. Let me be the first to comment on, and laud the great work done by the Rothman Institute on a daily basis. 2 years ago, I suffered a devastating shoulder injury (Grade 5 AC sprain) as the result of a biking accident. Long story short, Dr. Robert Frederick performed open shoulder surgery on my injury. He, along with his extended staff, then proceeded to guide me through the very lengthy recovery and rehab process. I urge anyone reading this, who may have had suffered a similar injury - or any orthopedic injury - to visit Rothman today. You will be very glad that you did. Furthermore, I am happy to share further insights into Rothman, or the specifics of my personal recovery process, with anyone who may be interested.

Rothman is great if your condition is one that is straight forward with a clear diagnosis. However, I have been thru their system for more than 2 years and no one is able to properly diagnosis my ongoing foot/ankle problem. I've been thru 4 surgical procedures at Rothman and none of them gave me real relief. Rothman has very skilled surgeons, but it is very much a factory setting. If your condition causes the production line to slow down you may not achieve the outcome you need.

Forgot to mention. It is not uncommon for a Rothman surgeon to book 35-40 patients per day in their office environment. Do the math. That's about 4 patients per hour. 15 minutes per patient. Most of that time is spent with the assistants.

@debrodl, It's unfortunate you've had a not so great experience at Rothman. You should try reaching out to them to express your concern.. my sister in law had trouble last year and sent a message to Rothman's facebook page and they got back to her in an hour to fix the problem. It's worth a try!

I had two very successful surgeries through Rothman (foot and ankle). Local Podiatrists and/or Orthapedists tried to figure out the condition, but they weren't coming up with anything. My Primary Doctor recommended Rothman and they figured the issues out right away, fixed them well, and now I have almost no pain. I am just going straight there if I have any issues in the future. I highly recommend them.
