For the second consecutive year, the Blue Cross Broad Street Run will offer spots through a lottery system.
This morning, it was announced that the lottery will begin on Saturday, February 1 at 12:01 a.m. and conclude on February 13 at 11:59 p.m. It was not known exactly how many spots are available through the lottery, but the guidelines promise to resemble last year’s system, with runners who’ve competed in 10 or more consecutive Broad Street Runs automatically “grandfathered” into the race.
This year’s race, which takes place on Sunday, May 4 will be a special one, according to Blue Cross Broad Street Run race director Jim Marino.
“This is the 35th annual race, and while every year is special to us the anniversary does add something,” says Marino.
Perhaps the biggest change this year is the move of the Blue Cross Broad Street Run Expo to the Pennsylvania Convention Center. The move was necessitated due to ongoing renovations at Lincoln Financial Field, but Marino says he looks forward to the opportunity to utilize the larger venue.
“We’re hoping to increase the number of vendors and we look forward to the opportunity to offer more to our runners,” he says. “This has always been a weekend-long event, but we hope the larger venue will add even more to the experience.”
