Children's Hospital of Philadelphia celebrated the 50th anniversary of its neonatal intensive care unit on November 28. Now known as the Harriet and Ronald Lassin Newborn/Infant Intensive Care Unit, it was the nation’s first surgical ICU for newborns and infants. Opened in 1962 as a one-room 12-bed unit, the N/IICU at CHOP has expanded in both size and scope and now has 95 licensed beds encompassing nearly the entire second floor of the hospital.
