Robert Fieldis an expert on health law, health policy and public health. He holds a joint appointment as professor of law at the Earle Mack School of Law and professor of health management and policy at the School of Public Health at Drexel University. He is also a senior fellow of the Leonard Davis Institute of Health Economics at the University of Pennsylvania and a lecturer in health care management at the Wharton School.
Prof. Field writes and speaks frequently on health care topics, including the recently enacted health reform law. He is the author of Health Care Regulation in America: Complexity, Confrontation and Compromise, a comprehensive overview of the government’s oversight of health care published by Oxford University Press. His other recent work has focused on public health regulation, vaccine policy, and drug safety.
Prior to joining Drexel, Dr. Field founded and chaired the Department of Health Policy and Public Health at University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. He has also conducted research at the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences, worked in health care management at the University of Pennsylvania Health System, and practiced health law with the Philadelphia firm of Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll. He received a Ph.D. in psychology from Boston University, a master’s in public health from the Harvard School of Public Health, a law degree from Columbia University, and an undergraduate degree magna cum laude from Harvard College.
