7 healthy snack ideas for kids at camp

With all of the activities your child will be doing at camp this summer, a snack attack is bound to strike. While it’s essential to pack your kids something they want to eat, that doesn’t mean you have to pack them junk. These nutrition-packed on-the-go munchies will redefine the camp snack:

Candy Bar Swap: Ditch your kid’s favorite candy bar for one of KIND Nuts and Spices indulgent flavors like Caramel Almond and Sea Salt. Plus, you’ll feel good about the fact that they only have five grams of sugar and are made with protein, fiber and healthy fat packed whole nuts. 

Need a nut free option? Opt for KIND Healthy Grain Bars in flavors like Dark Chocolate Chunk. 

Fun Food: Healthy, portable and cool to eat, pouches are all the rage. GoGo Squeeze makes applesauce with a twist by adding other fruits like peaches and berries with no added sugar, of course. DelMonte went beyond applesauce with their Fruit + Veggie Squeezers, which contain one and a half servings of no-sugar-added fruit/vegetables in a portable pouch for on-the-go snacking.

Popcorn: Popcorn has been reinvented by Quinn with safe, healthy, microwavable options like Hickory Smoked Cheddar (yum!). Gone are the chemical coatings (PFOA, PFCs, plastic liners, etc.) and you can even sneak in some greens with their popped Kale + Sea Salt variety. 

Jerky: Slim Jims and overly processed jerky DO NOT make the healthy list, but a high-quality product like those from the locally produced Righteous Felon Jerky Cartel are a protein packed, chemical-free totally hip snack.   

Fruit Leather: Move over Fruit by-the-Foot! Artificial colors and added sugars are not making this year’s snack list.  Instead, try fruit (and vegetable) leathers like Veggie-Go’s, are organic, no sugar added sweet treats that travel well and pack a nutritional punch.

Fridge-less Fruit: When it comes to packing snacks, they have to travel well, and fresh fruit doesn’t always hold up in the summer heat. Instead, stock up on freeze dried fruits and veggies which are available at Trader Joes or try Nature’s All Organic Snacks which come in a variety of flavors like Pumpkin, Roasted Corn and Mango.
