Medical marijuana center hopes to open in south NJ
EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, N.J. - A group approved to operate a medical marijuana dispensary plans to set up shop in southern New Jersey.
The Star-Ledger (http://bit.ly/yJIMMn) reports the Compassionate Care Foundation wants to open a center in Egg Harbor Township.
The center, which still needs a permit from the state health department, becomes the second of six proposed centers to find a home. Greenleaf Compassion Center in Montclair was the first.
Longtime Egg Harbor Mayor James "Sonny" McCullough says the center will be in a "warehouse location" that's not in a residential area. He also says plans for the site have not been finalized.
New Jersey legalized medical marijuana in January 2010, but so far none has been sold legally. Only patients with certain conditions, including multiple sclerosis, glaucoma and terminal cancer qualify.
