Fathers Day Tribute 2012
The latest heath, science, and medical news, healthy living tips and fitness advice and more from Philly.com, The Philadelphia Inquirer and the Philadelphia Daily News.
In honor of Father’s Day, Philly.com/health and the Philadelphia Inquirer want to salute our Dads, who teach us lessons large and small.
We are particularly interested in lessons you have garnered from your father about health and living well. It can be something you picked up from observing the big guy or some wisdom he passed on or an example he set (good or bad).
If you have a story to share about your father and a life lesson focused on health, please send it to us, along with a photo. The story should be no longer than 250 words. Make sure to include your Dad's first and last name. You can enter by emailing the story and photo to checkup@phillynews.com. We've extended the deadline to Wednesday, June 13. Submit your story right now. Don't make me ask you twice.
All appropriate stories will be collected in a special Father’s Day tribute section on Philly.com/health. Some of the stories will be featured in the Inquirer and on Philly.com. Plus, one randomly selected submitter will receive a $100 gift certificate to the Capital Grille Philadelphia steakhouse, so you can thank your Dad in person (or in memory).
By sending your photo and story, you give Philadelphia Media Network permission to publish them.
My dad was in his mid forties when he had his first heart attack. I can remember how scared my sister and I were that he wouldn’t come home from the hospital. It would be the beginning of our journey together with heart disease.
Make two columns for my father, Jack Marshall. His likes: Comfortable chairs, Scotch, naps, chatting, steak, chicken, salt, butter, doughnuts. His dislikes: Vegetables, plain water, exercise, dieting.
