Grant Awarded For Local Environmental Art Program

The Schuylkill Center’s Environmental Art Program is the proud recipient of a $15,000 National Endowment for the Arts Access to Artistic Excellence grant for the Center’s Edible Landscapes exhibition for the fall.

The Center will transform a portion of its property as part of its mission of connecting art with environmental education and in light of the active urban farming and local food movements in the area.

Six artist groups have been invited to participate in new forms of gardening, design and agriculture who will consider the area’s history of farming, use of equipment and market practices. The exhibition will demonstrate how urban farms can function and promote locally grown food.

The Center is working on this project with The Philadelphia Orchard Project, Philadelphia University, Urban Girls Produce, the Philadelphia Waldorf School and the Green Woods Charter School.
