Architect hired to study linking Center City to waterfront
Posted on Fri, Apr 05, 2013
The agency overseeing Philadelphia's Delaware waterfront took a first step Thursday toward reconnecting Center City to the river by hiring a respected landscape architecture firm to develop a strategy for bridging the daunting I-95 canyon and making it easier for pedestrians to access the water.

Really, why stop there? 70% of the city should be razed. It can be fixed with one simple phrase; I think a groundhog from PA said it...."keep on taxin'"

this is so stupid...the ONLY way to do this right is to put I-95 underground. proposals that don't incorporate that idea are worthless and will fail miserably at huge cost.

Agreed. Penns Landing needs to actually be connected to the rest of Old City to be useful for development. The money spent to cover over I95 will be recovered 10 fold.

PennPraxis estimates the cost of burying I-95 at $10bn.

Walking from Christ Church to Penn's Landing without having to look at an ugly expressway would be nice, but 100-billion-dollars nice? Come on.

You don't have to bury it through the whole city, just cover it from south to market.

Ten years from now, they'll be talking about doing a new study. This one will join numerous other studies that are on a shelf somewhere.

The fact that crapadelphia has done nothing with its waterfront is one of the reasons it is a craphole

The Great Plaza was approved for demolition in 1996 or 97, back when the Rouse plan for the waterfront was still active.

In this economy they are throwing away good money for bad. That Barnes thing was a waste because it's dead in there. So were those new and improved broken and overflowing solar energy trash cans. This will be another waste. That cafe across from the Cathedral on The Parkway which is always staffed with city employees is another waste of taxpayer dollars. More things that fatcats propose to try and make some more money at the expense of the consumer. Trifling.

Do us all a favor and keep your TRIFLING negativity in the ghetto and stay out of the way of those of us trying to move this great city forward.

I agree with Ms. Lou. Let's take care of the important people issues before we go spending taxpayer dollars so frivolously. If it is not broke, don't fix it.
