Now let girls serve mass. It's time for a female pope.

Ellen D. and eveyone who signed the petition should make a donation to the archdiocese to help defray the cost of insurance and equipment. It would be a nice gesture. Chaput is an amazing homilist and inspiring man! He really is helping us move forward from some dark days.

I completely agree - this isn't some victory in the name of equality. Those who are sipping Gatorade and claiming some moral victory against the Catholic Church are buffoons. This is just a case of bad parenting played out on the stage of American Idol. The real problem is it confuses (and thus diminishes) all other really good examples of our sexist culture.
The Inky loves stories of populist faux-morality - if 10 people believe in the same thing than it is a "cause". Still waiting that story on Bill Conlin's victims.

How 20th century of Chaput. But it's the 21st century.

"How 20th century of Chaput. But it's the 21st century." What? They have to give her a 5 yard head start so her self-esteem isn't damaged?

Chaput is a fraud. He thinks he'll look like a hero by letting an 11 yr old girl play football. How about contacting one victim of sexual molestation from a Philly priest and expressing your remorse and seeing if there is anything you can do to help their recovery? Just one, Charlie, let's start there!

And why are "pastors" on the panel to review whether a girl can play football?? The catholic church is so beyond creepy.

Really ej610? Girls playing football became a norm in the 20th century? You must have been locked in your parents basement during that time, because that's not what I saw.

Way to generalize. I felt that way with my oldest daughter and (regretfully) didn't let her become an altar server. My youngets daughter is now an altar server and is morereverent than most of the boys, oftne getting calls to serve funerals and weddings.

The first time this girl is hurt/injured on the field I do NOT want to hear how the boys were disrespectful or bullying. I believe this is not a good move. Girls could form their own football teams if there was enough interest.
My response to Caroline's quote "If there's something you don't like you can change it...." Well, you can always try but many times change is NOT good. We will see just how good this "change" is for football.

jpj - while I don't agree whole-heartedly with Joshman's statements, you would be the typical village idiot.
