Flyers Notes: Flyers reacquire Simon Gagne
Posted on Wed, Feb 27, 2013
The Flyers again went to their past in an attempt to improve their future. They acquired veteran left winger Simon Gagne from the Los Angeles Kings for a conditional 2013 fourth-round draft pick that was acquired from Phoenix. If the Flyers make the playoffs, the Kings will receive a third-round pick.

    — Van Halen: Most Flyer fans love Gagne and are happy to see him back. Hope he can stay healthy and contribute a few goals to get Philly into the playoffs. Looking forward to seeing his laser shot on the power play. Should be a tough game tonight, although the Caps had a slow start they are 5-2 in their last 7 games.

I loved Holmgren as a player, but I think he is such an overrated GM for the Flyers. Since he took over in 2006-07, they were a 6th seed in 2008, 5th seed in 2009, 7th seed in 2010, 2nd seed in 2011, a 5th seed in 2012, and right now they are a bubble playoff team. He has managed the cap so badly since becoming GM, that there is no arc with any of these teams, as they tear them up and reshuffle every 2 years. I have been a Flyers fan my whole life and love Ed Snider, but he has to go out of the organization and get a GM and just try a different theory. I still believe the Flyers are still stuck in the 1970's with their thinking, and it is one of the reasons we haven't won a Cup since 1975. I was thinking the other day who was the last goalie or defenseman we drafted and he turned out to be a great player? That's the problem.

Does that mean Mesz is out for the season? Good to have Gagne back. He'll see ice time on the third line and one of the PP units.

    — MRD: I heard Super Marty is out of the lineup again - he had to go back to the Scooter Store to recharge the batteries in his chair.

I hope Homer does not trade the Flyers number 1 pick in 2013. It is a deep draft and the Flyers should get a good player if they do not make the playoffs.

Glad to see him return, but I can't shake the feeling this is only a band aide for the current situation and a desperate attempt to win back negative-nancy fans... having said that, Gange should retire as a Flyer.

Like every sport ruined by the cap, because small markets cry when they can't keep keep up, it has affected Hockey. Hockey has been diluted to a mediocrity that is won or last by doing the hard work of scouting the world, in the Northern tier United States, junior leagues, you name it. Also, a low draft pick can change the equation or a surprise player like Read. The CAP takes a whole new breed of GM to deal with, and impeccable scouting. Flyers have a good core to grow around, but Bryzgalov is an example of shooting yourself in the foot. But, the CBA gives Amnesty to buy out his contract.

Glad to see Gagne back. He is a Flyer through and through.
