When the Archdiocese of Philadelphia set out in late 2008 to raise $200 million in donations, Catholics stepped up generously and pledged $221 million through January 2011.

Anyone who has viewed the HBO documentary
"MeaMaximaCulpa" knows the answer.

The Catholic Church has been exposed for most of their wrongdoings , customer attendance is down, sales dollars are down, customer service is down. They were and still are a big business with a lousey business plan, strip the religion out and what you have left is another business going out of business. Maybe they may qualify for a goverment bailout. greek
I watched "MeaMaximaCilpa" and read "Render Unto Rome" by Jason Berry. How anyone would give this orginization a nickel is beyond me. Does the church produce yearly income and spending information at any level? Or is it just "Pay, Pray and Obey"? LA dioceses spent $616 million to settle pedophie priest cases. Keep sending in those donations "sheep". They're counting on you. Gary315
It's the economy. The minimum pledge was $1000 over 3 years. If a person is going to pledge that kind of money, they are in for the long haul. Back then people probably thought things would get better by 2013 but the economy really hasn't improved that much so people are unable to fulfill their pledge. Phillies2008WSChamps

The same 300 year old question needs to be added to this article; how can anyone give money to an entity on our land that is loyal to a foreign sovereignty, and that the local recipient then gives a percentage of that money to that controlling foreign entity?
Legitimate question for all American citizens. Right?
Suppose a muslim group these days got their worship and their family's intimate directives from leaders who lived in gold palaces in Mecca and our own citizens were loyal to and were sending American money to Mecca? Then suppose that many of those people had positions in our government. Interesting dilemma; interesting food for thought.
Dump the pope, my friends and be independently rebellious like the rest of your fellow citizens in the USA. Then raise all the money for your own local churches and be free. GAC- the Catholics are socialists posing as a religion
NickTEA - the Catholics are socialists posing as a religion
NickTEA - GAC, your comments on Muslims is interesting because that really is the situation. Saudi Arabia Wahabis provide Korans to American mosques. They also fund Islamic schools in the U.S. Islam, especially the Wahabi version, teaches a way of life and intimate directives to be practiced by every Muslim. And positions in government? Just look at the White House and the State Department.

"Cabalistic Christianity, which is Catholic Christianity, and which has prevailed for 1,500 years, has received a mortal wound, of which the monster must finally die. Yet so strong is his constitution, that he may endure for centuries before he expires."-- John Adams, letter to Thomas Jefferson, July 16, 1814. This criminal cabal has been perpetrating its' evil for centuries, and we can only HOPE John Adams was right and these cretins have begun the process of extinction. But there will always be fearful little cowards looking for someone to tell them fairy tales to make the night seem less dark, so I wouldn't book it yet. CiceroSpuriousDeodatusTheSecond
22% of the devout catholics that pledged support finked out on making good the pledges. Maybe they should list the names of those folks in the media. The smart people just didn't pledge as they were smart enough not to throw good money after bad. Pretty near the time of the year that the cardinal announces the schools and parishes that will bite the dust this year. Bigbirch- OK, so money's a little tight right now and the Know-Nothing Party has resurrected itself. If the Catholic Church can survive the Inquisition, it can survive this, too.
I hope anybody out there who has suffered will approach the Archdiocese. While I have had nothing to do with the evil which was done to these poor victims, I hope God brings you a healing over time.
To the Know-Nothings, I offer you what John Boehner said to Harry Reid. Have a nice day.
As long as the sheep continue to donate, the RCC will continue to beg. This cult has had tax free, unaccountable books for 100's and 100's of years and they still want more. They are the wealthiest land owners in the world and they still want more. I wonder why there financial records have never been subpoenaed? Maybe because the politicians on the records would expose them as well? WBFO
