In this day and age how on earth does a stranger abduct a child from within a school? How did the perpetrator get in the school? What school official allowed the child to be taken? This is simply outrageous. How is anyone supposed to feel their child is safe when they're in school? Heads need to roll here and immediately!

"District officials said the incident violated school procedure because any adult taking a child from class must show ID and be on a list as a verified parent or guardian."

Then how does this happen? Heads absolutely should roll. This is an outrage to parents that trust in the school and their procedures. This girl could very well be dead. Bless her little heart cause shes going to need a lot of therapy to feel secure going back to school.

Sounds like the line where religous freedom and personal protection meet. Covering your face in their culture is something they are OK with but I think its confusing and distracting (in certain cases) in American culture.

I agree completely. Burqas prevent the clear identification of a person, which is both a security risk, and a social hindrance within a society which relies on facial recognition and expression in communication. Nothing to do with religion, it just doesn't work.

Please sign in, keep your face fully covered, n pick up your chosen sweetie. It's not proper protocol, but we'll remind everyone afterwards if it presents a problem.

The amber alert I heard on tv last night said " a woman in black muslim garb".Many crimes have been committed by men hiding in that type of clothing, it provides an easy means of hiding weapons. Someone did not ask for ID at the school??

No, this is not hindsight. It is from foresight that we have strict rules about the procedure for signing children out of schools. There is also common sense. This is just a case of mediocre people not doing their job. The district should see if criminal charges are warranted against school officials.

Since it was a person wearing a burqa, are they sure it was a woman?

The girl was picked up at 8:50, shouldn't the parents be expected to inform the school of early pick up or an emergency (school starts at 8:30) with a phone call?

Whoever gave this child to this person and also the school administration should be in serious trouble!

Women abduct children too but I can understand where you are coming from. The fact that school officials were stupid enough to let someone take the child, they probably wouldn't know if it was in fact a man posing as a woman. Once they catch the thing who did this we'll find out.

No. Because there are rules in place. Can't sue the entire District when every school has the proper rules. If one doesn't follow the procedures, they deserve to be fired and I wouldn't mind addiional action taken against them as well....but the District isn't at fault for this.

The information in this article, presuming it all to be true, neither precludes nor permits a finding of fault on the part of the School District. In any event, that "there are rules in place" is relevant to, but does not come close to determining, whether anyone outside the particular school has breached a duty owed to the girl and to her family.
