It was fitting that J.C. Penney Co.'s newest store, a redesigned and blinged out behemoth at Willow Grove Park, officially opened Friday of all days, the one-year anniversary of the death of Apple Inc. founder Steve Jobs.

I recall my local Sears store used the same 'fair price' strategy until they closed last summer. JCP was high on my list - I liked all their clothing - until they engaged in fringe, social issues and weird politics. JCP should focus ONLY on selling to all people of all beliefs, and exit from the political arena as fast as they entered. Jean Valjean
Penneys was formerly my "go to" store for housewares, but a visit to my local department recently was a nightmare. There was no clerk around, items were not properly tagged, there were no shelf tags, and checkout? OMG...a single, roped-off queue that wound its way around the single manned register and extended out to the floor. Psychologically, this is discouraging to the shopper. No one wnats to stand in a rope line to buy a toaster--especially those people toting children and strollers. Get some staff on the floor, put more registers throughout the department, and tag your merchandise properly! It will be a long time before I go back... Steffi1- ...JC Penney's is circling the drain...
Bottom line is that price sells merchandise; JCP's prices are still too high - particularly during a murky economic climate with cut-throat competition on all sides. I wish them well, but they have a tough road ahead. The Baron
I always shopped Penneys from buying dress shirts for high school at $2 ea to buying suits, towels, furniture when I was first starting out. I still like their Arizona Jeans, underwear and other clothing and at first didn't like the new prices but realized I was paying less than their old sale prices on the above items and didn't have to wait for them to be advertised on sale. I like their new setup and yes, it takes getting used to it but the savings are there. They have the lower prices just like we love at Wal-Mart!! quakercityguy
Buh-bye bigmo
This failing old retailer is trying any gimmick they can dream up to seem current. They even run an ad featuring twodads. xpatphluphyan
