President’s House opens to public
Posted on Wed, Dec 15, 2010
In a bitter cold flecked by the occasional flurry, with a crowd of hundreds shivering - but otherwise seemingly indifferent to the weather - the President's House memorial commemorating the site where George Washington and John Adams conducted their presidencies and where Washington held at least nine Africans in bondage in the 1790s, opened to the public Wednesday.

Philadelphia is a world class city. It has more historical assets than any city in the country. It's the birthplace of Democracy. These assets are priceless.

Mike P ... I totally agree. You learn from history. It is so much greater to be able to go to Old City than it would be just to read it in a book.

MikeP....Philadelphia is not a "World Class City" and Philadelphia is not the "Birthplace of Democracy"......Athens is.

Did you know that Marth Washington traveled back an forth to Mt. Vernon twice a year to exhange out the slaves? If a slave remained in Philadelphia for one year and a day he was considered free, hence the constant changing of the staff.
    unbelieveable!

I'm curious as to how this is a kick in the face to the homeless? Should all federal/state/city programs first be cut to supply a base for homeless intiatives? If so, count me out on this. The National Parks Service (Dept. of Interiror) who ministers to these sites plays a vital role in protecting Americas cultural and natural resources, it is not their mission, or funded to, supply and build homeless programs.
History does make a difference in many ways, from cultural tourism to the simple benefit of instilling civic pride and responsibility. This project will help visitors question our past, present, and future and then try and make informative decisions in their own lives. If you cant see a value in that shame on you.

This money should have been spent to topple a madman who America wants to kill or pay for democracy in Afghanistan, that'll show em whose boss the world. Old history stuff, more appeasement to left wing university professors! We need more capital accumulation not junk dug out the ground that isn't gold.
