Wayne's hopping downtown gets an ambitious new Mexican destination from the owners of the Serape chain, a modern indoor/outdoor space with sleek molded white walls bathed in a guacamole-green glow - and a deafening din. The kitchen offers a stylish contemporary take on Mexican dishes, too, but the flavors and execution fall far short of expectations given the seriously expensive menu.
Totopos de Mexico; guacamole; tuna tartare; sopa de tortilla; chicken enchiladas with mole; filete Tlaxcala (with chorizo sauce); barbacoa.
There are more than 100 good tequilas to choose from, but the bar struggled to craft a margarita (either basic or elaborated, with colored salt rims) with any semblance of balance. Mexican beers on draft (Dos Equis, or Negro Modelo) are the best bet to accompany the meal.
The owners installed acoustic "clouds" to dampen the noise, but they don't work very well. The sound meter hit 99-plus decibels more than once. (Ideal is 75 decibels or less.)
Hours: Lunch Monday through Saturday, 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Dinner Sunday through Thursday, 5-10 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, until 11 p.m
