Style: with a massive German-themed beer garden salvaged (just enough) from the brick-walled ruins of an industrial shell. The indoor-outdoor ambience is an undeniably fun playground for beer and ping-pong outings-even if it signals the potential Old City-fication of this emerging neighborhood. Aside from the grilled Illg's sausages, though, this kitchen is the least inspired in Starr's portfolio to date. .
Specialties: French fries with curry ketchup; cucumber salad; mixed green-radish salad; all sausages (especially the frankfurter, knockwurst, bratwurst, and hot bauernwurst).
Alcohol: A modest selection of nine taps and a dozen bottles focuses on quality German (and German-style) beer, plus some notable Dogfish drafts (My Antonia, plus a seasonal). Try the Franziskaner hefeweizen, the Ayinger Celebrator, or the "Bebop," a caffeinated beer cocktail of Köstritzer black beer and cola. There's a tiny selection of drinkable German/Austrian wines, plus a worthy collection of bittersweet schnapps.
Weekend noise: The inside dining room hit a boisterous 92 decibels-when half empty. Aim for the more pleasant outdoor garden to sit and chat.
Hours: Menu served Monday through Thursday, 4 to 11 p.m.; Friday until midnight; Saturday noon to midnight; Sunday noon to 11 p.m. (Bar open nightly until 2 a.m.)
