Style: Now in its second generation of family ownership, this two-decades-old Fairmount institution is still a vibrant place to eat, with a creative, globe-hopping menu, friendly staff, and plant-filled, quasi-New Orleans ambience that is warm and intimate, if a bit dated. Young chef Sean Weinberg shows a commitment to good ingredients and full flavors, but could give the wide-ranging menu more focus.
Specialties: Rib appetizer; lobster quesadillas; shrimp dumplings in ginger-miso broth; crispy calamari; cream of mushroom soup; squash agnolotti; sesame-soy-marinated tuna; horseradish-crusted salmon; jambalaya; banana-caramel cream pie; macadamia nut brownie.
Alcohol: The selection is small but generally affordable, with several good selections under $40, including a rustic cabernet franc from Domaine Gasnier ($30) and a flavorful California chardonnay from R.H. Phillips ($38).
Smoking: No smoking in upstairs dining rooms.
Hours: Mon. 11:30 a.m.-3 p.m., Tue.-Fri. 11:30 a.m.-4 p.m.; Mon.-Thu. 5-10 p.m., Fri-Sat. 5-10 p.m.
