In moving Gemelli from Narberth to Manayunk, Clark Gilbert has preserved his modern Italian-French menu but picked up some city style. But not too much.
Gemelli on Main (4161 Main St., 215-487-1230), which took over for MangoMoon last week, has maintained its comfortable side, even while picking up a liquor license and a second-floor bar that overlooks Main Street.
Gemelli ("twins" in Italian) is a tribute to his 13-year-old twins, Riley and Dylan. Gemelli on Main is open for dinner daily, plus weekend lunch. Dinner entrees start at $24. The menu is here (.PDF).
Gilbert's resume begins at the old Restaurant Taquet in Wayne, and includes the Fountain at the Four Seasons, La Terrasse, the former Sheraton Rittenhouse Square, the Saloon, and a return to Taquet.
Saturday marks the swan song of Horizons, as vegan pioneers Rich Landau and Kate Jacoby are selling their building at 611 S. Seventh St. Landau and Jacoby will resurface around Labor Day with Vedge, a more refined operation, at 1221 Locust St., the former Deux Cheminees. The couple say their sexy, open-kitchen setting and veg focus will be Philly's answer to Animal in Los Angeles. Expect "fruit-forward" desserts, plus a bar and cocktail lounge showcasing craft beers, wines, and cocktails. They hope to open around Labor Day, around the time that Tom Grim and Stalin Bedon, who own Nomad Pizza in Hopewell, N.J., open a Nomad branch at the former Horizons spot.
Sang Kee Noodle Bowl will replace Parker's Prime at 4755 West Chester Pike in Newtown Square on Aug. 12. Owners Win and Sutida Somboonsong have enlisted Sang Kee owner Michael Chow as consultant.
Drexel students won't be Dragon too much in the morning this fall, as Sabrina's Cafe - the bruncherie with locations in the Italian Market and Franklintown - is taking space in Ross Commons, at 34th Street and Powelton Avenue. DeAbreu says it will be the same format as the other locations, and will be about the same size as the original on Christian Street. Dov Benjamin Wisnia of Mallin Panchelli Nadel Realty, who handled the deal, quipped that this location will take Dragon Dollars.
John and Peter Giannopoulos of Sly Fox Brewery, opening a brewery in Pottstown later this year, plan to sell the restaurant side of their Royersford location to employee Stacey Hebert and her husband, Bryan. They will call it Lucky Lab Tavern.
