Good Taste

It may be hidden on the obscure "loft district" corner of 13th and Buttonwood Streets, but it won't be long before office workers from North Broad pounce on the new lunch option at Prohibition Taproom. This quirky gastropub from the crew at nearby Cafe Lift (itself a favorite for salads and paninis) only recently started midday hours. And its updated takes on American comforts, from mac'n'cheese to bibb-and-blue-cheese salads to a decent burger with bacon-roasted onions are worth notice.

Chef Jen Sherman has fun with daily inspirations, topping her hand-stretched flatbreads with everything from roasted fennel and brie to pulled pork and cheddar. The flatbread we tasted, though, with asiago, roasted mushrooms, arugula, and truffle oil, was the favorite at a recent lunch. It was the first, I'm sure, of many more to come.
