  • Authentic German fare has returned to the Reading Terminal Market in a very big way. Blutwurst fans will thrill to the selection of exotic Teutonic deli meats at the new Wursthaus Schmitz, as well as the schnitzel, sausage sandwiches cooked on site. But my go-to buys are the take-out links of Nürnberger bratwurst, made at the stand's sibling restaurant, Brauhaus Schmitz, and seasoned with ginger, marjoram, and mace. Plunge the links in simmering water for a few minutes first to prevent splitting on the grill. Then pan-fry a quart of fresh-made spaetzle on the side in brown butter, uncork a pilsner, and serve.
