For much of the U.S., it’s been a long, cold, seemingly unending winter. Though the calendar shows we officially flipped to spring last week, you’d barely know it. Even here in North Carolina, where winters are usually short, mild, and snowless, we’re bracing for more wet, freezing weather in the next few days. Hello! Could someone please tell Mother Nature that this is the last week of March and that, here in the South, the barren dogwood branches are supposed to be floating with lovely white blossoms rather, than sporting another layer of cold, shiny ice?
Though it seems quite doubtful to many of us, summer is coming! It always does, and you know what? Now is the time to get prepared for those long, lazy, flipflop and swimsuit-clad days. Ouch! Does that thought scare you a bit? Perhaps you’re like me, and have added a few extra pounds over the course of this extended chilly, comfort food-filled winter. Around our house, meals just tend to be a bit heavier during the cold months, and winter clothing does a pretty good job of covering up a little bulge here or there. That won’t be the case in a month or two (depending on which latitude you reside in).
