Chicken “Wings” and Waffles

Varga Bar executive chef Evan Turney fancies himself a chicken-wing expert, and for the second straight year, he has challenged others to a cook-off.

This year's competition, held on Super Bowl Sunday, pitted Turney against Brendan Walsh, of The Standard Tap.

Each cook brought three flavors. While Walsh's “General Brendan’s Chicken” wings put up a good fight, Turney's riff on chicken and waffles stole the show.

Four celeb judges and restaurant patrons voted. Turney won, but Walsh didn’t walk away empty-handed. Turney agreed to give Walsh the prize anyway: dinner for two.

The winning wings are on the menu at Varga Bar, 10th and Spruce Streets.

And here is the recipe for you home cooks.
