The return of Goat Hollow

Tonight is the launch of Goat Hollow, once a Mount Airy fixture on Mount Pleasant Avenue off Lincoln Drive (300 W. Mount Pleasant Ave., 267-428-5672).

The original Goat closed in 2004 and was succeeded by a couple of forgettable spots.

About the only original aspect of the Goat now is the name, the stone facade, and much of the wooden flooring.

New owners Neil Campbell and Andy Shahan - both locals - scooped out the house and installed a stunning wood-fired hearth backed by exposed bricks, providing a gorgeous bar area on the first floor. Twenty-two beer taps - including two pumps and two nitrogen lines - are offered, as well as cocktails. A second-floor dining room also serves as private dining. They're also creating an outdoor seating area behind a custom gate. (Campbell owns Old City's Race Street Café.)

You can tell chef Adam Glickman is an alum of Monk’s Cafe, given the moules et frites on the menu. Glickman also executes such dishes as Potted Terrine of Wild Boar, with pickled vegetables, toast points and fruit sauce; Grilled Diver Scallops, served over risotto cakes with beurre blanc; Frisee Salad, with lardons, vinaigrette and fried egg; Oyster Muffaleta Sandwich, battered and deep-fried oysters with olive tapenade, lettuce, tomato and onion; Merguez Sausage Sandwich, housemade lamb sausage with mint and dill yogurt sauce; Wissahickon Burger, with duck liver pâté and truffled cheese; Beef Carbonnade, stewed beef, sweet onion, sour ale and roasted potatoes; Striped Bass en Papillote, made with wit beer and served with vegetables and rice; Cold-Smoked Cowboy Ribeye, a 16-ounce bone-in grilled steak served with potatoes au gratin, greens and veal demiglace. Entree prices top out at $24.

Goat Hollow's lunch and dinner menu will be served from 11:30 a.m. to 11 p.m. and a late-night menu will be served from 11 p.m. until 1 a.m. Weekend brunch will be offered shortly after opening.
