The latke report

With Hanukah on the way, that can only mean the return of the fried potato treat known as the latke.

The Gershman Y at Broad and Pine hosts its 10th annual Latkepalooza on Sunday, Dec. 9 from 2 to 4 p.m., an ode to the many ways you can make them.

Starting Saturday, Dec. 8, London Grill at 23d Street and Fairmount Avenue will do a promo called "Eight Days of Latkes and Lights." After a daily candle-lighting at 5:30 p.m., they put on a special menu of latkes (some conventional, others a bit avant-garde, such as with duck confit, pistachios & candied olives and fried in duck fat), prepared by chef Michael McNally. He tosses this recipe our way to you do-it-yourselfers.

London Grill is also part of a latke round-up undertaken by The Bubbi Project in the Jewish Exponent, which not only found restaurants offering Hanukah latkes but offers a list of restaurants that serve them year-round. It's here.
