Liquid Room coming to Kensington

POSTED: Monday, December 3, 2012, 5:00 PM

Back when, El Presidente was a workingman's corner bar at Second and Master Streets in Kensington.

Seven years ago, entrepreneur Ramonita Rivera bought it with the idea of opening it as a contemporary bar.

In that time. the neighborhood - the pocket north of Northern Liberties, just two blocks north of Girard Avenue - has come up.

And now, that bar is about to open.

Liquid Room (1361 N. Second St.) soft-opens Friday, Dec. 7. Mediterranean-influenced menu, bars on two levels (eight crafts on tap), plenty of street parking.

2nd and master is Kensington. grew up there, drank at this bar when it was McNulty's (60's and before) and Bradley's (70's). Perhaps you should do a little research.

Anyone remember the article from a decade ago about a local realtor who was trying to rebrand this area "JuNoGi" (hipster-speak for "Just North of Girard")?

Yes, it is. I've live on this block for 22 years. The neighborhood is called Kensington South. The organization that serves the area is on the same block as the bar and is called Kensington South Community Partners. I think its you, PhillyTaz, who needs to get the facts.

"Northern LIberties" hehe. It's okay Philly, go ahead and say Kensington or North Philadelphia...it's okay to have those areas of the city not entirely infamous in the future.
