Temple student wins Peanut Chews billboard contest

POSTED: Thursday, April 4, 2013, 3:24 PM

Andrew Arbitell of Phoenixville, an advertising major at Temple University, won a recent contest sponsored by Goldenberg's Peanut Chews to write a 10-word billboard slogan.

Arbitell, 20, came up with "Enjoyed when the Rocky steps were just steps." Arbitell learned of the candy contest from Joe Glennon, his ad prof.

The head is up on a billboard along I-95 near the Peanut Chews factory through April 28.

Besides the glory, Arbitell gets a year's supply of Peanut Chews, which company spokesman and former Eagles QB Ron Jaworski will hand-deliver in "Goldie," the brand's vintage 1967 Volkswagen Microbus.

Jaws - whose nickname is appropriate when associated with the chewy.candy - will drop them off in a ceremony on April 11 at Temple.

Some Peanut Chews history is here.

Except that when they were "chewin' it old school since 1917" the Rocky Steps weren't even steps. The Art Museum hadn't been built in 1917.
    Minor point.

Tatt2: The line is OK; it doesn't say that the steps were around when Peanut Chews started. Just that they (PC) were around pre-Rocky.

I don't think it looks like a winner at all. Looks lame.

That's it, a 20 year old local kid wins a contest and some internet muscleheads are knocking his entry. News flash: the kid made you think about Peanut Chews for a minute. Kudos, Andrew.

good for him, it will look good on his resume for future work. Just wondering though, why they didn't put "from Phoenixville" on the board instead of "from Philadelphia". The article said he was from P'ville. I'd be upset b/c if i won that i'd want to represent my hometown.

Well I guess if you can't get a Fullbright or Rhodes a Peanut Chews will have to do. Congratulations to Temple.

Yes, it is. You (or your dentist!) can get it at the candy shop at the Reading Terminal Market.

I think its a good line and KDH is right. Layoff and let the kid enjoy his winnings.

I worked in Frankford 30 years ago when the aroma of roasting peanuts and chocolate would occasionally waft over a few blocks and make it impossible to concentrate. That was more captivating than any slogan.
