Stateside's Sabatino gives notice

The chef says he's going out on his own.

It's only natural for a chef to yearn to run his own restaurant.

And one of Philly's hottest young chefs plans to do just that.

George Sabatino, 31, who's enjoyed excellent reviews in his year and a half at Stateside on East Passyunk Avenue after a solid run with Marcie Turney at Lolita, Bindi and Barbuzzo, tells me that he has given notice - a classy 30 days. Last day will be March 11.

He said he initially would consult until plans gel for a restaurant-bar that he'll run with his fiancee, Jennifer Conley, who had set up Stateside's bar.

Sabatino said he wanted to thank the owners for the opportunity and wished them continued success with Stateside.

Sabatino called it a logical career move. He won't say anything more about the new project now.
