Spring preview: South Street Headhouse Festival

On Saturday, May 2, an abundance of festivals take place on the streets of Philadelphia, and one to bring major attention to is the South Street Headhouse District Spring Festival.

On Saturday, May 2, you have a selection of festivals. On one side of town is Rittenhouse Row Spring Festival.

One another is the South Street Headhouse District Spring Festival.

From 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., South Street between Front and 8th Street and along Headhouse Plaza (Second Street between South and Lombard) will shut down in celebration of the neighborhood's arts, shopping, restaurants, bars, and music.

With this event easily bringing thousands of people to the streets, knowing what to expect may make your day easier to find what you want.

Through food and drink, taste the variety of flavors South Street brings with over 30 vendors selling and sampling their products. Restaurants and companies include: Circles Thai, Bistro Romano, Bridget Foy's, Fat Tuesday, Paddy Whacks, Rita's Water Ice, and more.

German culture will be celebrated at Brauhaus Schmitz (718 South St.) during the entire block party as they host Maifest. More information can be found here.

Live music is in no short supply here. Three stages (5th Street, 2nd Street, and 8th Street) will be spread throughout the streets and feature live music from Liv Devine, Swing That Cat, Kid Felix, East of the West, and More. Performances will take place from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Over 100 vendors, artists, and crafters will line up the street with products and services. Offered throughout the festival include: Fair Trade Philadelphia, Benjamin Lovell Shoes, Headhouse Books, Green Mountain Energy, Saffron Creations, Philly Word Art, and more.

For the little ones, a Kids Zone will be open on the 200 block and will be filled with interactive activities including art lessons, a bike safety program, presentations from the School of Rock, and more. Look out for face painters, character appearances, and other family-friendly activities located throughout the streets.

Need a break from the crowd? Selected bars and restaurants on the strip will host entertainment and specials during the festival.

Guests can make their Saturday a spooky one with an interactive 4D trailer of the supernatural thriller, Insidious 3 located at 2nd Street.
