Restaurant scion George "Siggie" Wilson has inked a lease for 2960 Skippack Pike in Worcester. The spot, just east of the village of Skippack, is best known as the former home of Fuzion and more recently Gracie's Cafe.
It marks a return to the business for Wilson, whose name hung on Siggie's L'Auberge restaurant in West Conshocken (now Stella Blu) from 1997 to 2001. He closed the restaurant after the death of his mother, Helen Sigel Wilson, and went to work for David's Bridal.
Siggie Wilson says he expects to open Siggie's, a French-American BYOB, in June.
Wilson, 57, basically grew up in the dining room. His mother, a championship amateur golfer in the 1940s and '50s, had fallen into the restaurant business when her brother went off to fight in World War II.
In 1950, she opened Helen Sigel's at 1523 Walnut St., which became Helen Sigel Wilson's when she married Charlie Wilson. (It's now Le Bec Fin.) After closing Helen Sigel Wilson's in the early 1970s, the couple opened L'Auberge in what was then Spread Eagle Village in Wayne (now Georges' in Eagle Village Shops).
She sold L'Auberge in 1986 and went to work as a corporate recruiter, but returned in 1997 to open Siggie's L'Auberge with her son.
Wilson says he's shopping for a chef.
