Prices from 1981 at Day by Day

POSTED: Thursday, February 14, 2013, 11:10 AM

Day by Day, the Rittenhouse lunch/brunch landmark, is marking its 32d anniversary with throwback pricing next week.

It's clear that the inflation rate in menu pricing is much lower than other sectors.

In 1981, when Day by Day opened at 21st and Sansom Streets, you got a dessert for $2.50. Now it's twice that.

All week, from Feb. 19 through Feb. 22, owner Robin Barg is charging $2.50 for the carrot cake, sour cream apple pie, chocolate mousse, and pecan pie.

On Tuesday, Feb. 19 only, she is rolling back prices on the Croque Monsieur ($7), Chicken Liver Pate with Brandy & Apples on Black Bread ($6), Flounder & Roasted Lemon in Parchment Paper ($7), Sesame Crusted Chicken with Honey Mayo ($7), Spinach & Feta in Phyllo ($6), and Egg Salad ($4).

These dishes' 2013 prices are $11 for the Croque Monsieur, $9 for the Chicken Liver, $10 for the Flounder and Sesame-Crusted Chicken, $8 for the phyllo, and $7 for Egg Salad.

She'll also give out champagne and chocolate-dipped strawberries.
