Philly brings home the bacon

Four restaurants appear on "United States of Bacon," at 7 p.m. on Destination America.

No one could ever accuse Philly of being a health-food capital.

Not after four restaurants appear Monday, Feb. 25 (7 p.m.) on the new series United States of Bacon, which is shown on the Discovery TV-owned Destination America channel.

The four are:

PYT in the Piazza at Schmidt's in Northern Liberties with its Bloody Mary burger and its new bacon taco shell.

SoWe at 22d and Carpenter Streets with its bacon beignets and chocolate Bakon martinis; samples of the beignets are being given away and the martinis are being discounted to $5 during the showing.

Jake's Sandwich Board at 122 S. 12th St. with the Turbacon sandwich, which includes turkey, bacon, cranberry-apple spread, brown gravy, and potato pancakes)

McNally's Tavern at 8634 Germantown Ave. with its signature Schmitter, that cheesesteak topped with salami, fried onions, cheese, and bacon.

And how do they make that taco shell out of bacon? Philly.com's Hillary Petrozziello visited PYT and shows you in a clever 30-second video here.
