New bar on Rittenhouse gets a.name

POSTED: Saturday, March 30, 2013, 7:55 PM
The future home of a.bar at 18th and Walnut Streets.

After months of deliberation, the operators of the AKA Rittenhouse Square - who already have a.kitchen on the 18th Street side of the posh hotel - have settled on a name for the tiny bar under construction in the former Kiehl's store at 18th and Walnut Streets.

It will be a.bar when it opens in mid-May.

The overall look and feel will be somewhat darker than a.kitchen. It will lack a grill hood because of the configuration, limiting its menu to cold stuff: oysters, charcuterie, crudo, and toasts, with an appropriate wine and cocktail menu.

Both a.kitchen and a.bar will be accessible through the hotel lobby.

Both a.kitchen and a.bar are still hunting for an executive chef, since last week's ouster of Bryan Sikora.

no need for negativity here - but what i don't get is how you can fire your executive chef and not replace them - don't they do anything - I guess the menu and all the purveyors and the quality assurance process is no being handled by the waitstaff. I ate there once - very pricey and terrible service, so i guess the loss of an executive chef can't hurt. Place is almost always empty.
