MarketBasket: Beguiling Belgian beer

More coverage
  • Southern stylings at a BBQ spot
  • Restaurateurs keen on catering
  • Bringing lamb to the table
  • Get out the board game and dust off your bejeweled dragon goblet, because there's a lusty new beer to wash down HBO's Game of Thrones, whose third season debuts on March 31. Iron Throne Ale, from Brewery Ommegang in Cooperstown, N.Y., is a Belgian-style strong blonde brewed with grains of paradise and Noble hops - in honor of the Lannister family currently on the throne. A perfect brew to beguile a sword-and-sorcery TV audience into the world of craft beer, with a hint of malt and honey, it also has plenty of citrusy brightness and peppery bite to keep serious beer fans quaffing. At least until the show's next themed Ommegang brew comes out.

Iron Throne Ale from Ommegang, $8.40, at the Foodery, and many other local beer stores.
