It's October, so spice is everywhere

If it's October, it must be pumpkin-spiced. We find it a bit, well, scary how the combination of cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, ginger and clove — but often no actual pumpkin — is creeping into more and more products. Such as:

Pumpkin Spice Creme Oreos: They're new, they're bad-for-you good (no real pumpkins died for these treats) and they're on store shelves now but not for long, so stock up.

Jif Whips Whipped Peanut Butter & Pumpkin Pie Spice Flavored Spread:  New, too, and available only through December. A 2-tablespoon serving has 50 less calories than regular Jif!

Pumpkin Spice Bagels: Thomas does a limited-edition English Muffin, too. Both, when toasted, emit that "comforting aroma of toasting pumpkin."

Pumpkin Spice Pasta: Rossi Pasta's website offers fettuccine and lasagna. Made with pumpkin and, of course, those spices. Not as ewww as you might think. Try with sage butter and Asiago cheese.

Harvest Pumpkin Tortilla Chips: Limited-edition and quite popular, say the Food Should Taste Good folks. The sweet, salty, spicy chips contain dried pumpkin.

Pumpkin Bacon Chocolate Brownies: Two foodie juggernauts collide at Nick's Roast Beef in Old City. The brownies, made with spice and squash, were served at Nick's bacon and beer festival last weekend. Quite the hit, they've earned a spot on the menu.

Pumpkin Spice Condoms: No. Not really. But the Web was abuzz with that rumor recently, until condom-maker Durex shot it down.
