Iron Hill coming to Main Line
Michael Klein, Philly.com
The Main Line beer scene is about to explode.
Iron Hill Brewery & Restaurant will open in Ardmore, says co-owner Kevin Finn, confirming a rumor floated on Jack Curtin's Liquid Diet blog.
Finn tells me that the location will be a former carpet store in Ardmore Plaza (44 Greenfield Ave.) - which happens to be right in the backyard of former West Chester Iron Hill brewer Jean Broillet IV, who now owns Tired Hands.
"We’ve been looking for locations in Ardmore for years, and this space in Ardmore Plaza is the perfect spot for Iron Hill," Finn says. "We hope to open in early 2014.”
The center already has a state store and an independent specialty-beer distributor, The Bottle Shoppe.
Iron Hill truly is on the move. Its next location (No. 10) will open in Voorhees Town Center in 2013.
A strip mall? Boooo!!!!! knicks84
lousy brew bhamss12
lousy brew indeed, and over priced to match Old German
Their beer is flat, every time I go there Strongbow
Flat beer? Must be the Cask Condition barrels they have out. Overpriced? Try the Mug Club yo.Pig Iron Porter = yummy goodness. Strip Mall? Sounds like easy parking, hey now! 6400lou
Flat Beer?? Never at IHB. No matter where I have been the beer has been great the food delicious. Yes it is a bit more expensive than a Rock Bottom or Victory as far as food but then again the food is better too. Don't know which ones you have been drinking at or if you are used to the mass produced swill of AB or Coors but beer should not be as bubbly as a soda. Try a taster before you order if you are questioning which one to get a pint, mug...of. While a strip mall doesn't seem like a plan it works for parking like a charm. North Wales v Chestnut Hill or Lancaster v Phoenixville. Wilmington is the best of both worlds regarding that. Now if they can find something towards Newtown/Yardley would be lovely!
wicked-licious
Wow, that's dissapointing. Ardmore is a rarity in the suburban wastes, a town with an actual business district and main street, but instead of finding a location there, Iron Hill chooses a strip mall half a mile away? Pelti
It is in a strip mall but it has virtually no parking. They certainly must address the parking situation. And i agree with Pelti, would have been much better if it could have found a home in/around suburban square. tboneee
Obviously, some of you don't live in Ardmore. I do and can tell you that there is a TON of free parking in a huge lot DIRECTLY across the street and up the block about 50 yards at most....right next to the fire station. So, parking is certainly not an issue. CantTeachHeart
Decent food, tolerable beer. Luckily I'm 10 mins. from Victory's brewery. CaptAwesome
CantTeach - I've been living on the Main Line for over 40 years. The parking in that strip mall is a disaster. Yes, there is a parking lot across the street is an issue especially when you want to get across that street. Not a great location. Philalawyer
Just another reminder of how nice it is to live in Center City with the food and beer we have within walking distance. I'm sure this is great for Ardmore, though. As suburban chains go, Iron Hill isn't bad. (and btw what some people think is "flat" or "warm" beer is actually the correct style for that particular brew) tomB
@philalawyer - point taken. I never park in that strip mall. I always use the lot across the street. But, sometimes it does feel like frogger trying to cross. Maybe they can put a stop sign there. CantTeachHeart
lame, crappy overpriced beer/food. i hate chains main liner
Lame beer? Didn't they just win a bunch of awards for it? 78Rider
